Using Mineral Makeup

When applying mineral makeup, please keep the following things in mind:

Start with a clean face
Using the right brushes is the key. Affordable Mineral Makeup offers several different Kabuki brushes that are great at applying foundation, blush, primer, veil, etc.
Use the right colors suited for you. If you don't know what color you are, try different samples to find the right shade. Mix shades together to get the right shade for you.
Start with light layers, then build from there. You can always add more if the coverage is not enough for you. Remember it is always easier to add than to take away.
If you are mixing your mineral makeup with water, do so in a different container. This will keep the rest of your minerals dry so they do not become contaminated.
If you have never used mineral makeup before, it may take some time and practice to learn to apply and feel comfortable doing it. Just remember "Practice makes perfect"

Multi-Use Products

I have always loved products that have multiple uses. A product having multiple uses not only helps save money, it helps save space. And that is exactly what you get with the Carpet Sprinkles from Enchanted Potions. This product is made from Sodium Bicarbonate (fancy name for baking soda) and fragrance/essential oil. That's it. Two little ingredients. But with so many uses.

This product can be used, as the name implies, as a carpet sprinkle. Just lightly dust onto carpets, leave sit for a few minutes, and vacuum up. You will be left with a light, refreshing scent.

Another use for around the home is an all-purpose cleaner. Simply mix 1/4 cup of white vinager with 1 quart of water. Slowly add this to 2 tablespoons of the Carpet Sprinkle. This will bubble and fizz a little. When the bubbling stops, pour into a spray bottle, and use as any other cleaner.

The Carpet Sprinkle also works as a great laundry booster. Add 1 - 2 tablespoons to your washing maching with your regular laundry detergent. You will be left with clothes that have a light, lingering scent. You can also pair this up with a Dryer Sachet in the same scent.

Along with helping with household odors, the Carpet Sprinkle can also multi-purpose for pampering yourself. Use it as a foot soak by dissolving 1/2 cup of the Carpet Sprinkle in 1 gallon of warm water in your foot bath.

And yet another use, when ordering the Carpet Sprinkle with an essential oil instead of fragrance oil, you can use it as an exfoliate for your face. Mix 1 tablespoon of the Carpet Sprinkle with 1-1/2 teaspoons of water, and gently rub in circular motions on your face. Rinse well. Note, this is not recommended on sensitive skin, and only use on skin if ordering in essential oil fragrances.

I bet when you hear the term “Gluten Free”, you don’t automatically think of your makeup, do you? Well, if you’re gluten sensitive you may want to. Makeup can have gluten in it.

What is gluten sensitivity?

The symptoms are usually skin rashes, itchiness, headaches, bloating/cramping. Gluten is very hard to digest and can be found in wheat, rye, barley and oats.
Gluten can be found in your makeup and other beauty products in the Vitamin E, Olive Oil, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Oats and Triglycerides are all sources of gluten that most people wouldn’t think about when purchasing makeup and body products.
Vitamin E is used as an antioxidant and is usually derived from wheat germ. Products that contain oils in them are usually preserved with Vitamin E to prevent them from going rancid. They can also be hidden in such oils as Olive Oil, Palm Oil and Coconut Oil.

Oats are another common ingredient commonly used in beauty products, such as soap and facial products.

If you are gluten sensitive you need to be aware of these ingredients that most people may overlook in cosmetics or body products.

There’s no definitive information regarding cosmetics, body products being harmful to those who are gluten sensitive but think about this…your skin is the largest organ of your body. It usually absorbs what you put on it and thus goes into your body system. So, that would suggest that if you’re gluten sensitive you might have reactions (skin rash/itchiness) from products that contain gluten additives.

Many of us have heard the claim that mineral makeup has an indefinate shelf-life. This can be true for those mineral makeups, such as Affordable Mineral Makeup™, that only use inert minerals. But introducing bateria to your mineral makeup can be done unintentionally. You can help avoid this by doing a few simple things.

Never touch your minerals in their container. If you must use your fingers to apply, tap a small amount of the minerals onto something else (a plate, a pallate, etc). Touching the minerals in the container and introduce oils from your hand into the mix, which may harbor bacteria.
If you are applying your mineral makeup wet, then again tap a small amount onto something else. Then either wet your brush and dip into this small amount or mix a small amount of water into it. Do not add wet minerals back into the same container. If you have tapped out too much and already touched your wet brush to the minerals, you can put these minerals in a seperate container (Affordable Mineral Makeup™ offers empty jars that work good for this purpose).
Clean your brushes regularly! Dirty brushes can contain oils and dirt from your skin, and are great places for nasty bacteria to hide.

Bismuth Oxychloride In Mineral Makeup

Several mineral makeups list Bismuth Oxychlroride as an ingredient. While Bismuth does occur naturally in the Earth (and chemically resembles Arsenic), it isn't economical to mine it. To make meet the demands for it, it is created as a by-product from refining lead and copper. The Bismuth then undergoes processes to become Bismuth Chloride. Neither the Bismuth nor the Bismuth Chloride is safe to use. It then undergoes even more processes before becoming Bismuth Oxychloride. Therefore, it is not a natural ingredient. Other reasons to stay away from this ingredient:

It can clog your pores
It is known to irritate your skin
Can cause cystic acne

Rice Powder

Cleaning Makeup Brushes

When it comes to applying makeup, using clean brushes is very important. Dead skin cells and oils from your skin clinging to the bristles, along with makeup build-up, can shorten the life of your brushes. Dirty brushes can also harbor bacteria.

You can easily and inexpensively clean your brushes.

Dampen the bristles with warm water.
Add 1-2 drops of baby shampoo or a gentle facial cleanser. Work into a later.
Rinse the bristles thoroughly with warm water.
Blot with a towel and shape the bristles into their original shape.
Lay flat on towel and allow to air-dry.

Please remember to keep your brushes flat when cleaning them. Never point the handle down. Doing so can cause the water to loosen the glue on the handle.

Lip Care

Just like the rest of your body, your lips need TLC too. Whether you are a fan of lipsticks, tints, balms, glosses, or nothing at all, you can easily keep your lips looking and feeling great.

Exfoliating your lips removes dry cells, making your lips smoother. You can do this by gently massaging your lips with warm water and a very soft toothbrush. Or you can make a simple paste with brown sugar and a few drops of water. Gently massage the paste onto your lips, then rinse with plain water.

Keep your lips moisturized. After exfoliating, apply a thin layer of a light lip balm. I also like to use Vitamin E oil. No lip balm or Vitamin E oil? I have been known to use a light layer of olive oil when I'm out of them.

Your lips will not only look better, they will feel better.

My Basics

Some days I just don't feel like dealing with my makeup at all, but I don't want to face the world with a "naked face." On these days I use what I consider my basics...foundation, blush, mascara, and lip balm.

After applying my foundation, I apply my blush as normal. Then I use my blush to give just a hint of colors on my eyes. I follow up with a swipe of masacra on my lashes. Then end with applying lip balm.

I personally use Light Beige Foundation, Cool Kiss Blush, Chocolate Brown Mascara.

Skin care

When it comes to your face, your makeup can only do so much. Proper skin care is very important.

Always wash your face with a mild soap or facial wash. My favorite to use on my face is baby bath. Not only is it mild, it gets all of the dirt and makeup off.
Exfoliate a few times a week to remove dead skin. There are many products out there you can buy for this purpose, but I like to get mine right out of my kitchen. I mix a bit of baking soda (just a tiny bit will do) with my face cleaner, then use as I normally would.
Tone. Again, there are many toners available to buy, but again, I get mine right from my kitchen. I fill a small bottle with half water and half Apple Cidar Vinegar. Then apply as any other toner. I have also grated a cucumber then used the juice as a toner, and like that as well.
Moisturize. Although there are many, many, many choices at the store, I choose to save my money. I instead invest in many aloe vera plants. I just cut off a leaf and use that in place of moisturizer. In my opinion, it works better than pricey moisturizers. If you can't find any aloe plants anywhere, you can get a bottle of aloe from your local health food store.
Using a mask once or twice a week also helps. There are masks available, depending on your skin type. I have sensitive and acne prone skin. One "mask" I have found that works for me is plain honey. Yep, the kind you buy at the grocery store. I just warm it a bit, then apply to my face, then rinse off after 15-20 minutes.

It can seem like a lot, but the only things you need to do every day (morning and night) is cleanse, tone, and moisturize. Once you get into a routine of doing it, it will take all of 5 minutes to do. When doing the mask, whichever you decide on, do something relaxing for yourself for those 15 or so minutes, like read, or watch your favorite television show.

Use any of Affordable Mineral Makeup™ minerals as a blush. Just apply along the apples of your cheeks.

Affordable Mineral Makeup™ minerals can also be used for lip color. Simply dip a lip brush into clear lip gloss, then into the loose minerals. Apply to your lips. You can also mix minerals to get the exact shade you want.

To use Affordable Mineral Makeup™ minerals on your nails, use clear nail polish. Dip the brush into the loose mineral, then paint onto your nails. Because Affordable Mineral Makeup™ minerals contain no dyes. there is no need for a base coat.

Shimmer/Highlighter can be dabbed onto your cheekbones, shoulders, etc to give an extra shine
