Using Mineral Makeup

When applying mineral makeup, please keep the following things in mind:

• Start with a clean face
• Using the right brushes is the key. Affordable Mineral Makeup offers several different Kabuki brushes that are great at applying foundation, blush, primer, veil, etc.
• Use the right colors suited for you. If you don't know what color you are, try different samples to find the right shade. Mix shades together to get the right shade for you.
• Start with light layers, then build from there. You can always add more if the coverage is not enough for you. Remember it is always easier to add than to take away.
• If you are mixing your mineral makeup with water, do so in a different container. This will keep the rest of your minerals dry so they do not become contaminated.
• If you have never used mineral makeup before, it may take some time and practice to learn to apply and feel comfortable doing it. Just remember "Practice makes perfect"

Avoid Contaminating Mineral Makeup

   Many of us have heard the claim that mineral makeup has an indefinate shelf-life.  This can be true for those mineral makeups, such as Affordable Mineral Makeup™, that only use inert minerals.  But introducing bateria to your mineral makeup can be done unintentionally.  You can help avoid this by doing a few simple things.

• Never touch your minerals in their container.  If you must use your fingers to apply, tap a small amount of the minerals onto something else (a plate, a pallate, etc).  Touching the minerals in the container and introduce oils from your hand into the mix, which may harbor bacteria.
• If you are applying your mineral makeup wet, then again tap a small amount onto something else.  Then either wet your brush and dip into this small amount or mix a small amount of water into it.  Do not add wet minerals back into the same container.  If you have tapped out too much and already touched your wet brush to the minerals, you can put these minerals in a seperate container (Affordable Mineral Makeup™ offers empty jars that work good for this purpose).
• Clean your brushes regularly!  Dirty brushes can contain oils and dirt from your skin, and are great places for nasty bacteria to hide. 

Bismuth Oxychloride In Mineral Makeup

Several mineral makeups list Bismuth Oxychlroride as an ingredient. While Bismuth does occur naturally in the Earth (and chemically resembles Arsenic), it isn't economical to mine it. To make meet the demands for it, it is created as a by-product from refining lead and copper. The Bismuth then undergoes processes to become Bismuth Chloride. Neither the Bismuth nor the Bismuth Chloride is safe to use. It then undergoes even more processes before becoming Bismuth Oxychloride. Therefore, it is not a natural ingredient. Other reasons to stay away from this ingredient:

• It can clog your pores
• It is known to irritate your skin
• Can cause cystic acne
  

Ingredients to Avoid

When choosing a mineral makeup, there are several ingredients you should avoid, especially if you have sensitive skin. These ingredients include:

• Bismuth Oxychloride
• Talc
• Parabens
• Petrolatum Based Oils
• Cornstarch
• Ferric Ferrocyanide
• BHA
• BHT
• Triethanolamine
• Rice Powder

We will take a more detailed look at these ingredients later on.

My Basics

Some days I just don't feel like dealing with my makeup at all, but I don't want to face the world with a "naked face." On these days I use what I consider my basics...foundation, blush, mascara, and lip balm.

After applying my foundation, I apply my blush as normal. Then I use my blush to give just a hint of colors on my eyes. I follow up with a swipe of masacra on my lashes. Then end with applying lip balm.

I personally use Light Beige Foundation, Cool Kiss Blush, Chocolate Brown Mascara.

Containers are often made based on volume, not weight. For example: the 1 gram jars are sold to us as 5 gram jars because most products that are sold in them weigh more than mineral makeup. We won't tell you or insinuate that we're giving you 5 grams of mineral makeup just because it's in a 5-gram jar. Everything is based on product weight.Some minerals weigh more than others, this is why we hand-fill and weigh every jar.

Defense Primer

Affordable Mineral Makeup's Defense Primer is a lightweight, translucent powder that gives you a fresh "canvas" to work on. It helps minimize the appearance of pores and fine facial lines. Primer also helps foundation, blush, and shadow last longer. It also acts as a defense against the daily stress of the environment.

Apply the primer before applying concealer and foundation to have a smoother finer area to apply the rest of your Affordable Mineral Makeup.

Why I wear Affordable Mineral Makeup™

I have tried various brands of mineral makeup over the last few years that I bought at the store. All of them had a couple of things in common. I never could find the right color. I either ended up with a color that was too light, or too dark, or too yellow, or too pink. The ones from the store didn't mix well to make my own shade either. So I always ended up with different containers of this mineral makeup doing nothing but taking up space. Not only that, but when I used them the foundation would give me horrible acne and horrible rashes. The eye shadows would make my eyes red and watery. I had just about given up on mineral makeup, but then I found Affordable Mineral Makeup™. With Affordable Mineral Makeup™ you are able to order sample sizes of any color to try BEFORE you order a larger size. If you don't find your right shade with Affordable Mineral Makeup™, then they colors easily mix together to make your own shade. And Affordable Mineral Makeup™ offers more shades than other mineral makeups. It also does not make my acne worse, give me rashes, or irritate my eyes.

Affordable Mineral Makeup™ only contain Titanium Dixoide, Mica, Iron Oxides, and Zinc Oxides. The blue and purple shades do also contain ultramarine blue. That's it! Only 4 ingredients more most of the products, and 5 ingredients for the blue and purple shades!

While the "mineral makeup" you find in store contains MANY ingredients. Some of these ingredients are known to clog pores or to be skin irritates. Ingredients like Bismuth Oxycholoride, which in not only a pore clogger but a skin irritant that is related to Arsenic in it's unrefined form! Another in the "mineral makeup" found in stores is Imidazolidinyl Urea, which is a Formaldehyde releasing agent. Another ingredient found in them is Dimethicone, that coats the skin, therefore trapping anything and everything under it, and not allowing the skin to breath. That's almost like putting a sheet of plastic wrap over your face! Yet another ingredient in the "mineral makeup" that you find in stores are Paraben Preservatives such as Methyl, Propyl, Ethyl, and Butyl. These preservatives are known to be toxic if swallowed or inhaled and are known to cause irritation to eyes and skin.
